SD PUC Approves Keystone XL Pipeline

February 18, 2010

The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission voted unanimously today to approve the Keystone XL oil pipeline.

This is not the final approval the pipeline needs for construction. Montana also has an approval process, and there are other permits necessary.

If you have concerns about the Keystone XL pipeline, be sure to participate when the U.S. Department of State releases the draft environmental impact statement for public comment. The date keeps being pushed back, but the most recent estimate we’ve heard is this March. We will publish information about the public comment period and public hearings when that information is available.

New to learning about the project? Here’s a brief video about it.
