Keystone Pipeline System … and China
Investigative reporter Vince Wade puts the pieces together about the dubious Keystone XL proposal and the growing oil thirst of the People’s Republic of China. Fascinating stuff. Wade notes that the Chinese are investing in the tar sands, but Canadians were vehemently opposed to a pipeline project across western Canada to Pacific ports. The Keystone pipeline system across the U.S. would get China essentially the same access via Panama-region pipelines.
State Department representatives have been adamant that Keystone oil is destined for U.S. markets. But what if market realities have changed and this oil winds up going to China? Is it still worth all that risk across thousands of miles of America’s breadbasket?
