California Incident Linked to Inadequate Pipeline and Fixtures

March 3, 2011

September 9th’s gas pipeline explosion in San Bruno, California is still being investigated but experts are saying that inadequate pipes and fixtures may have been the cause.  This news is coming during a time when the materials for the Keystone I and Keystone XL pipelines are being questioned. Paul Blackburn, staff attorney for Plains Justice, has been active in making sure that if the Keystone XL pipeline project is approved, the Federal Government will put in place regulations that will monitor where the pipeline materials come from. There have been reports of subpar materials being imported from over-seas manufacturers.  Making sure that adequate piping and fixtures are in place before high pressure, highly toxic bitumen starts to flow, is a must for groups questioning the construction of the pipeline.
