Nebraska Pipeline Graphics
Released this weekend by Bold Nebraska, new images showing the overlap between Keystone XL and the Ogallala Aquifer. For those of you out there who aren’t familiar with the aquifer, it’s the lifeblood of Nebraska agriculture. Millions rely on it, and in wet months the aquifer can rise nearly to the surface, filling postholes and subirrigating fields. A spill of a toxic, corrosive substance into this vast subterranean lake could be an ecological disaster on a hereto unimagined scale. No methods of cleanup have even been proposed, and the extent of the risk remains wholly unanalyzed in the Final Environmental Impact Statement.
