Sen. Tester (D-MT) Calls on Clinton for Safe Pipeline

September 1, 2011

In an August 17, 2011 letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) calls for conditions on the Keystone XL pipeline sufficient to protect rural landowners in eastern Montana who would play host to the pipeline.  Tester requests heightened standards for steel thickness and quality, in light of recent pipeline problems, as well as a fully vetted emergency response plan in place prior to construction.  See Plains Justice’s 2010 reports on pipeline quality and inadequate emergency response planning.
