TransCanada Says No Route Change for KXL
After meeting for 4 hours with 4 Nebraska state senators, TransCanada came out charging ahead on its original route while promising to “study” issues raised by lawmakers , report the Lincoln Journal-Star and Omaha World-Herald. The Journal-Star calls the outcome “slippery.” According to the World-Herald, TransCanada spokesman Alex Pourbaix gave this response to Nebraska’s concerns:
Pourbaix said it probably would have been appropriate for Nebraska to pass routing requirements a couple of years ago. But he said that doing so now would force the company through a state environmental review that would duplicate what federal reviews have already accomplished.
The Nebraska senators sound more interested in their legal options than what TransCanada considers “appropriate.” Speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood, who is also an attorney, stated that he’d be researching Nebraska’s rights.
