Former Deputy Nat’l Security Adviser: KXL Not in National Interest

December 6, 2011

A new opinion piece from former Deputy National Security Adviser and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nancy Soderberg says that building a pipeline from Canada across the U.S. heartland will not improve national security.  TransCanada acknowledges, as we’ve argued (and argued) from the outset, that nothing prevents the oil from moving into global markets once it arrives at the Gulf Coast.  Americans bear all the risk and inconvenience, Canadians take the profits, the planet sizzles, gas prices rise, and there is no energy security bonus.  Remind us again what the upside is?

Why not build a new refinery in ND or even Canada and move gas into the USA by rail to where we need it. We are an economy driven by energy….right now it is still oil. Why not get it here while we can and now have a way. Wind is not yet viable without our subsidies, corn is for food and as much as I hate the fact we are hooked on oil its what we are set up for right now. With the economy as it is, get the oil here now to help the working class.
